Seniors tennis reaches final stage

KARACHI, Nov 20: Shahid Aziz on Wednesday completed the semi-final lineup of the 45 singles in the Pakistan-ITF seniors’ world ranking tennis championship at Karachi Gymkhana.

Shahid swept aside Akhter Aliman 6-1, 6-3 in the fourth quarter-final to join top seed Rashid Malik, second seed Imran Siddique and Israr Gul.

Shahid faces Rashid while Imran will be up against Israr in the two pre-finals.

Jamil Khan, a veteran tennis coach at the Modern Club, carved out 6-3, 6-1 victory over his club member Zafar Hasan to reach 55 singles final. He will now meet the winner of Mohammad Farooq Khan and Akbar Hayat Khan in the final.

Meanwhile, the final lineup of 45 doubles was drawn on Wednesday. The pair of Israr Gul and Altaf Hussain chalked up 6-1, 6-2 victory over Mohammad Javed and Tariq Jan Allahwala while Rashid Malik and Imran Ahmed were home 6-3, 6-0 over Shahid Saleem and Roger Bayat.

Quarter-final: Shahid Aziz bt Akhter Aliman 6-1, 6-3.

55 singles:

Semi-finals: Jamil Khan bt Zafar Hasan 6-3, 6-1.

45 doubles:

Semi-final: Israr Gul and Altaf Hussain bt Mohammad Javed and Tariq Jan Allahwala 6-1, 6-2; Rashid Malik and Imran Ahmed bt Shahid Saleem and Roger Bayat 6-3, 6-0.—Sports Correspondent
