KARAK, Nov 24: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has termed the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf sit-in to block Nato supplies a drama and alleged that by doing so Imran Khan was violating the resolutions of the All Party Conference.

Speaking at a public meeting at Sabirabad here on Sunday, he said though the negotiations with Taliban had been suspended they were still hopeful talks process would begin soon.

Mr Rehman said the APC had also endorsed the peace tribal jirga formed by his party for carrying out parleys with the militants, but one drone attack had changed the entire scenario.

He claimed that the federal government had no alternative to the peace tribel jirga, and said all political parties’ leaders had been invited to the jirga being convened on November 28.

The JUI-F chief said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was a sensitive province and the notion that his party was rearing to form government in the province was misplaced.

“Our party is not power hungry and we just want to bring the federal and provincial governments on the same page to establish peace in the volatile region,” said Mr Rehman.

He said that the JUI wanted to establish Islamic rule in the country through democratic struggle and not through gun.

Mr Rehman alleged that some state institutions had dragged the country away from the path of progress.

He accused the PTI of double standards, taking $500 million from the US on one hand and stopping Nato supplies to Afghanistan on the other.

The JUI chief also accused the PTI of promoting Western culture in the province by giving education, health and development projects to NGOs. Former chief minister Akram Khan Durani also spoke on the occasion.

Former provincial minister Mian Nisar Gul announced to join JUI during the meeting.

Meanwhile, security agencies arrested a suspected person from the JUI public meeting and shifted him to unknown location for interrogation.

Sources said the suspected person identified as Hameedullah, resident of Mir Ali in North Waziristan, was posing himself as schoolteacher and was arrested before the start of the meeting.

MINGORA: Jamiat Ulema-i-Isam-F, Swat chapter, on Sunday staged a protest demonstration against the US drone attack in Hangu district and the Rawalpindi violence.

The protesters demanded of the government to award exemplary punishment to those involved in the attack on Madrassa Taleemul Islam in Rawalpindi.

The participants led by JUI-F district chief Maulana Hujaat Ullah, passed through different bazaars of Mingora city, chanting slogans against drone attacks and the Pindi tragedy.

The protesters reached Green Chowk, where JUI-F leaders said that drone strike on a Madrassa in Hangu was aggression against Pakistan.

They said US drone attacks sabotaged peace dialogue with the Taliban.

They said that the nation needed to be united against the US aggression. They urged government to take immediate steps in light of joint resolutions of the parliament.
