ASWJ activist gunned down

KARACHI, Nov 28: A man said to an activist of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat was shot dead in Mehmoodabad on Thursday evening, police and party sources said.

The Tipu Sultan police said Shabbir Sadiq, 44, was sitting at his tyre puncture shop when gunmen riding a motorcycle attacked him and rode off. He sustained three bullet wounds on his head and chest and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Though Tipu Sultan police SHO Haider Masood said he was not sure of the possible motive of the killing, a spokesman for the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat said the victim was an ASWJ worker in the area and was targeted by terrorists.

Two killed in Mehmoodabad

A man, Rafaqat Ali, 39, was gunned down in Chanesar Goth on Thursday, police officials said.

Mehmoodabad SHO Mohammed Sarwar, better known as Sarwar Commando, said the victim, a resident of Garden East, had gone there to meet his friends when gunmen shot him. He was being taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in a rickshaw by his ‘friends’ when he died. Later, the ‘friends’ handed over Rafaqat’s body to a Chhipa ambulance driver and disappeared.

The police officer said he suspected that the man might have been killed by the ‘friends’ over some personal issue.

However, Mehmoodabad subdivisional police officer Tariq Mughal said Rafaqat was called by a woman to the area by phone.

In the other incident, Abdullah, 19, was gunned down in Kashmir Colony.

SHO Sarwar said the youth was standing outside his home when gunmen attacked and killed him. The victim, who ran ‘Café Saeed’ in the locality, might have been killed over some personal enmity, said the police officer. However, SDPO Tariq Mughal said the youth was ‘interested in a girl’ in the area and the killing might be related to it. The body was taken to the JPMC for a post-mortem examination.

Man shot dead in SITE

A man, Raza Hayat, in his early 20s, was shot dead in the SITE-B area.

SITE SHO Sohail Khan said that the victim got off his car as he was stuck in a traffic jam. As he was standing there, gunmen on a motorcycle appeared there and opened fire on him. He sustained a single bullet wound on his neck and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.According to SITE SP Fida Hussain, Raza might have been killed during a robbery attempt or on account of personal enmity. Quoting the brother of the victim, the SP said Raza and his brother had come here from Pano Aqil, Sukkur, two days back to visit their relatives in Rasheedabad. He said the youth was taking a tour of the city when killed.

Bullet-riddled body

The bullet-riddled body of a man in his 30s was found in the Gadap area, SHO Imtiaz Niazi said.

The body bearing two bullet wounds on the head and chest was found in the bushes near ‘Konkar Nadi’. It was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where his identity could not be ascertained immediately.

Tortured bodyThe body of a man was found in a storm-water drain, off the road linking Malir Cantonment to the Superhighway, said SHO Arshad Leghari. There were torture marks on the body, which was shifted to the JPMC for a post-mortem examination. His identity could not be ascertained immediately.

The police officer said the body was around five days old.

Faith healer killed

The headless body of a man was found in a home in Sector 16, Buffer Zone, according to the Taimuria police.

The dead was identified as Mohammed Saleem, 48. The police said the victim was a faith healer and lived alone in his ‘astana’.
