PTI activists arrested for manhandling Nato truck drivers

PESHAWAR: Three activists of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) were arrested for their alleged involvement in manhandling truck drivers carrying Nato supplies to Afghanistan near Hayatabad Toll Plaza on Friday.

A private TV channel reported that PTI’s District General Secretary Younas Zaheer confirmed the arrest and said the workers were arrested after the party’s seventh sit-in in a row blocking Nato supplies in protest against the US drone attacks.

He demanded of police to forthwith release the workers as “they were protesting against the US drone strikes that killed many innocents and sabotaged the peace process in Pakistan.”

It is pertinent to mention that Provincial Police Chief Nasir Durrani has ordered the police to prevent protesters from stopping trucks.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police also registered cases against 35 PTI activists for manhandling truck drivers. Some 100 PTI protesters reportedly checked shipment documents of trucks, heading to Afghanistan, at the Hayatabad toll booth and also manhandled some drivers.

The cases have been registered against the accused involved in thrashing drivers under Sections 141, 148, 149 and 341 PPC on orders of IG KP at the Pishta Khara Police Station.
