IMC unveils hybrid car

KARACHI, Dec 3: The Indus Motor Company (IMC) unveiled its eco-friendly car, Prius, on Monday, after a long period of extensive testing to make the vehicle customised to local conditions.

“It is indeed a great milestone, not only in the history of the IMC, but of the entire nation,” said the company’s CEO Parvez Ghias. “The way people perceive cars is changing,” he said, adding that the IMC has introduced a car for the future.

Although used imported hybrid cars have been in use for quite a while in Pakistan, they do not come with a warranty. This official launch will now help consumers buy new hybrid cars with a company-backed warranty.

But why people buy a car as expensive as Rs4.5 million when the same can be imported at a much lower price? Mr Ghias agreed that it is a problem which faces the local car producers.

He said carmakers are doing their job well and now it rests with the government to make policies for promoting eco-friendly vehicles.

Toyota’s Chief Engineer Koji Toyoshima also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the key benefits of the car and the technology it uses.
