MPs pledge to address malnutrition

LAHORE: Dec 4: Parliamentarians belonging to the ruling party and opposition have pledged their support to address malnutrition in Punjab.

The pledge came at a briefing organised by Save the Children, says a press release. It was attended by 14 members of the Punjab Assembly.

The parliamentarians were told that they could play an important role in scaling up nutrition programmes as they were decision-makers of official policies.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister’s Adviser on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique said the Punjab government was committed to addressing malnutrition issues in the province with the support of development partners. He praised the Save the Children for holding the briefing on nutrition and stressed for follow-up meetings.

He said the Punjab government was in the process of preparing an integrated provincial nutrition strategy and would put in maximum efforts in the implementation of ‘The Punjab Protection of Breastfeeding and Child Nutrition (Amendment) Act 2012’.
