Bollywood star Salman Khan to face fresh trial on homicide charge

NEW DEHLI: Indian film star Salman Khan will face a fresh trial on a homicide charge for a fatal road accident more than 11 years ago.

Khan is alleged to have rammed his Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle onto a pavement and over five sleeping homeless people in suburban Mumbai, killing one and injuring four others.

A Mumbai magistrates court in February charged the actor with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Khan appealed, seeking a trial in a higher court.

Judge DW Deshpande on Thursday ordered a fresh trial and said all the witnesses would be re-examined.

The pre-trial is set for 23 December. Khan could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of culpable homicide.
