KARACHI, Dec 6: Group-II table-toppers Karachi Whites put themselves in the driving seat as Hyderabad slumped to 132-6 in their first innings on day two of their Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Group-I fixture at the National Stadium here on Friday.

Earlier, Karachi Whites carried their overnight tally of 256-5 to 392 with skipper Asif Zakir adding 18 further runs to his Thursday score before falling to paceman Farhan Ayub for 88 (190 balls, 11 boundaries).

Meanwhile, Gohar Faiz inspired a great comeback by Quetta against Lahore Shalimar at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Gohar captured six wickets for 98 runs to send the hosts crashing from the overnight lofty heights of 340-5 to 357 all out with final five wickets tumbling in the space of seven runs.

Lahore Shalimar captain Umar Siddique failed to add to his first-day score of 143.

Quetta then responded brilliantly to reach stumps at 202-2 with Abdullah Jan (76) and Taimur Ali (42) involving in an unbroken partnership of 98 after Abdullah had helped opener Shahzad Tareen (70) add 108 for the second wicket.

Hosts Faisalabad got a useful lead of 57 runs after collecting 251 in reply to Islamabad’s 194 at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. The visitors faced one over to get 8-0 in their second innings.

For the second day running, 14 wickets fell at the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar in the Group-I clash between Quaid Trophy champions Karachi Blues and Peshawar.The Blues, who were in dire straits at 46-4 after the hosts were all out for 213 on the opening day, conceded a lead of 98 when they were dismissed for 115.

But young right-arm pace bowler Waqar Anwar returned career-best haul of 5-41 in 17 overs in only his fourth appearance at the first-class level as Peshawar nosedived to 160-8 to have overall lead of 258.Lahore Ravi took the honours on day two of their fixture against Group-I leaders Rawalpindi at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

After paceman Bilawal Iqbal took the remaining wicket to end up with 5-72 as the visitors totalled 330, Lahore Ravi drew inspiration from the ongoing 128-run stand between 20-year-old opener Abdul Wahab Dar and Muntazir Mehdi to pile up 233-2.

The left-hander Wahab, playing just his third game at this level, struck 105 (230 balls, 15 boundaries), while Muntazir contributed 65.

Despite Faisal Mubashir and Rehan Rafiq narrowly missing making centuries, Bahawalpur still managed to reach 437 against Abbottabad at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium in Abbottabad.

Faisal, who began the day on 91, was dismissed for 94, while Rehan added seven more runs before he was gone for 97. Abdul Basit, however, slammed an unbeaten 85.

The hosts responded with 120-3 when stumps were drawn for the day.
