Tribute paid to Allama Qasmi

HYDERABAD, Dec 9: Rich tributes were paid to eminent scholar Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi on his 10th death anniversary organised by Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi Chair, University of Sindh, at the tomb of Mian Ghulam Nabi Kalhoro on Monday.

Scores of educationists, scholars, intellectuals, writers and students of Allama Qasmi were present in the Quran Khwani held there. A wreath was also laid on his grave.

On the occasion, two books named “Mitho Mursal” (Biography) compiled by Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi and Index of Monthly Al-Raheem and Al-Wali published by Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi Chair were launched.

Presiding over the launching ceremony, noted scholar Dr Ghulam Ali Allana said Allama Qasmi was a scholar who guided young scholars in their research-oriented work. He said Allama Qasmi always encouraged scholars in their research and spent his full life in promotion of research and education, according to a press release.

Dr Allana appreciated efforts of Allama Qasmi Chair for publication of 14 books of Mr Qasmi and holding many conferences. Dr Allana also appreciated scholarly contribution of Mirza Qaleech Baig Chair, University of Sindh; Shah Abdul Latif Chair, University of Karachi, and Sachal Chair of Shah Latif, University Khairpur.

He said Sindh had produced many scholars and intellectuals who had made remarkable contribution towards literature, history and other fields but their services were not remembered. He appreciated efforts of Prof Nazir Qasmi, son of Allama Qasmi, for organising the death anniversary event and remembering his father.

Isra University Hyderabad chancellor Dr Asadullah Kazi lauded scholarly services of Allama Qasmi and said he was real promoter of research culture in the country.

He said that being honorary professor in the University of Sindh, Allama Qasmi had produced more than 50 Ph.D scholars and M.Phil degree holders and simultaneously guiding a number of scholars in their research work.

Noted writer Hameed Sindhi said Allama Sahib was his teacher and always considered him like a family member.

Scholar Dr Habibullah Siddiqui said Allama Sahib was a religious scholar and intellectual having command over literature and education. Allama Qasmi was a Sufi scholar, he said.

Dr Kazi Khadim Hussain said Allama Qasmi was a great religious scholar and an expert of Sindhi literature of modern era. He also highlighted work of the Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasmi chair.

Taj Joyo, Prof Nazir Ahmed Qasmi, Dr Hafiz Muneer Ahmed, Dr Abid Leghari, Shah Nawaz Chandio and others also expressed their views and paid tribute to Allama Qasmi.
