Shutdown in Khairpur over ‘police inaction’

KHAIRPUR, Dec 9: A shutter-down strike was observed in Sobhodero on Monday on the appeal of the Memon community and traders against non-arrest of the killers of a man named Mohammad Jurriyal Memon despite passage of 15 days after the murder.

A large number of traders belonging to the Memon community also protested at the local press club in Sobhodero and raised slogans against police.

Later, they reached the National Highway at Ranipur on vehicles and blocked the highway for more than two hours, suspending vehicular traffic on both sides of it.

They ended their protest after the ASP Gambat held talks with them and assured relatives of the victim of killers’ arrest.

One of the protesters, Moulvi Siraj Memon, told reporters after the demonstration that six armed persons riding three motor bikes had killed Jurriyal Memon when he was looking after his agricultural land.

He said Jurriyal was a headman of the community in the village of Razyal Memon, adding that police had not arrested the persons involved in the murder.

He said the ASP had asked for three days’ time (till Wednesday) for the arrest of the murderers. The victim is said to be a supporter of the PML-F.
