Govt failed to control price hike: Sherpao

PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao has said that the provincial government has failed to control the increasing prices of daily use commodities.

Inflation was increased in Peshawar, he told a group of journalists at his residence here on Wednesday. He added that a report of State Bank of Pakistan for the month of November showed that there was 14.1 per cent inflation in Peshawar, which was higher than that of other three provincial capitals in the country.

“The SBP’s report says that inflation ratio stands at 8.5 per cent in Karachi, 9.9 per cent in Lahore and 9.7 per cent in Quetta. It speaks volumes about the performance of PTI government,” Mr Sherpao said.

He said that Peshawar, Mardan and Mingora were among the top 10 cities in the country where inflation was high. Quoting the report, he said that there was 15.7 per cent inflation in Mingora and 15.4 per cent in Mardan.

The QWP leader said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf should have provided relief to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa instead of staging protest against price-hike in Lahore. He said that provincial government failed to secure the arrears of the net hydel profit from the federal government. He said that federal government should also help Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to devise a strategy to control the damage it suffered in the war against terrorism.

Mr Sherpao said that federal government made 30 per cent cut in the public sector development programme but the provincial government didn’t raise the issue at a proper forum.

“The PTI has not done homework and has now indulged in non-issues to divert the attention of the people from real issues,” he added.

The QWP leader said that law and order was getting worse with each passing day as the incidents of targeted killing and kidnapping for ransom had become a routine.
