Tremors jolt Karachi

KARACHI: Mild shockwaves of the earthquake were felt in parts of Karachi on Monday evening as people called newspaper offices to tell them about the tremors they felt in their areas.

However, no immediate report regarding loss of life or property was received, an official at the meteorological department said.

The official added that the epicentre was in a remote place and probably that was why it did not affect any town or city seriously.

The earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Balochistan, said an official of the Islamabad-based earthquake study centre of the Pakistan meteorological department.

Responding to Dawn queries, the official said the epicentre of the earthquake was 137 kilometres northwest of Karachi and 95 kilometres east of Awaran. Its depth was 50 kilometres.
