CHITRAL: Cars with fake numbers on the rise
CHITRAL, June 21: The number of vehicles with fake registration, including taxis, is persistently increasing in the district in connivance with the law enforcement agencies, shows a survey.
A good number of cars are Pakistan made and are said to have been stolen or snatched at gunpoint. They carry the registration number of various districts of Punjab and Sindh. Sources said most of such vehicles had dual registration numbers.
The number of non-custom paid vehicles, smuggled from Afghanistan, runs into hundreds.
Some of the influential people, including the district Nazim, also maintain such vehicles.
INQUIRY DEMANDED: The association of government orders suppliers has contested the cancellation of a health department’s supply contract, asking the provincial government to institute an inquiry in this regard.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the association said that the EDO (health), Chitral, had invited quotations for the supply of computers, printers and other office equipment and the contract was awarded to the lowest bidders.
But, the provincial health secretariat had later directed the Chitral office not to pass the bills and return the items to the bidders as the same would be purchased from Peshawar by the provincial secretariat.
The suppliers claimed they could not take these items back as they had already been installed these items in the department.
