IHC rejects appeals in Musharraf treason trial; verdict announced
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Thursday announced the detailed verdict over the intra-court appeal filed by former president of Pakistan Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf against the formation of a special court to try him for treason under Article 6 of the Constitution, DawnNews reported.
The court rejected the three pleas submitted by the former military strongman while announcing a detailed 11-page ruling over the issue.
In his plea the applicant had stated that the notification regarding the formation of a special court should be cancelled as it was not in accordance with the Constitution and law of Pakistan.
The objections against the formation of a special court to hold the treason trial raised by the former military ruler had no legal status, according to the verdict announced by the court.
Earlier on December 19, the court had reserved its verdict after the completion of arguments, without giving any time for the announcement of the verdict.
The government had announced on Nov 18 that Musharraf would be tried under Article 6 of the Constitution for to conspiring against the 1973 Constitution by declaring emergency and overthrowing the superior judiciary in November 2007.
