Neither drone nor retaliatory suicide attacks justifiable: Sami

LAHORE: The chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and chairman of the Pakistan Defence Council, Maulana Samiul Haq said on Saturday that there was no justification for either drone strikes or suicide attacks carried out in retaliation and that the government should hold dialogue with the Taliban as there was no other option, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives in Lahore's Model Town, Haq said every time the peace talks between the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and the government commenced, the United States conducted a drone strike.

He warned against initiating a military operation against Taliban and said its reaction could engulf the entire nation and the subsequent series of suicide attacks would occur in all major cities, including Lahore.

The chief of the JUI-S further said that he did not accept the prevailing judicial system and questioned the integrity of the courts which could not punish terrorists.

He added that there were high hopes and expectations from the incumbent government which it failed to fulfill.

Haq said any person, including Tehrik-i-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri, would be welcomed if he strives for the cause of the country.
