Musharraf to get top security at court appearance

ISLAMABAD: Top security arrangements have been made for former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf’s expected appearance on Wednesday (today) before a special court hearing allegations of treason levelled against him.

Police sources said the arrangements made included ‘box security’ and combing and scanning of the entire route before his departure from his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad to National Library in the Red Zone where the court has been set up. Similarly, the former president would be provided the security reserved for VVIPs during travelling.

About 200 policemen, along with a contingent of commandos and Rangers personnel are part of the security measures for the former president.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Security) will monitor all security measures, including a motorcade of personnel, along with jammers, a fire engine and an ambulance.

Hours before the former president’s journey to the court, police personnel will be deployed and personnel of the bomb disposal squad will comb the entire route and areas adjacent to it.

A police officer said the measures had been taken in view of threats Gen Musharraf faced and two recent recoveries of IEDs (improvised explosives devices) near his farmhouse on Dec 24 and Dec 30.

Police and Rangers personnel will be deployed around the special court. Containers have also been placed around the National Library.
