Third team to probe journalist’s death

KARACHI: The Sindh government has constituted a three-member committee to look into the complaint of a delayed and imperfect medical treatment leading to the death of a senior journalist, Zakir Ali aka Shan Dahar, when he was brought to the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Larkana, in a critical condition with gunshot wounds on New Year’s Eve.

The committee will be headed by special health secretary Syed Mansoor Abbas Rizvi with deputy health secretary Dr Azhar Khan and Prof Dr Asghar Bhutto being the other members.

It is supposed to complete the inquiry and submit a report to the health department within the next seven days.

Earlier on Thursday, the Larkana DIG constituted a three-member special team to investigate the journalist’s murder.

CMCH medical superintendent Dr Safiullah Abbasi also formed a three-member committee to probe into alleged negligence of duty doctors and staff in handling the case.

Shan Dahar, the bureau chief of news channel ‘Abb Takk’ in Larkana, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Badah town, some 40 kilometres off here, on Tuesday night.
