Inter-district hockey on Larkana’s new astro-turf

KARACHI: An all-Sindh Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Inter-district hockey championship will mark the formal inauguration of the newly laid Astro turf at Larkana’s M. A. Khoro Stadium next month.A delegation of Sindh Hockey Association (SHA) led by its president former Olympian Shahid Ali Khan called on Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui in his office on Thursday and seek his blessings for the revival of national game at the grassroots level in the province.

After giving his nod to patronise the SHA, the Commissioner issued necessary directives to make the event a success.

It is pertinent to mention that apart from Larkana, a new Astro turf has been installed at Railway Stadium Sukkur while the third one has already been imported for laying at Mirpurkhas.

As far as Karachi is concerned, Dr. M. A. Shah Academy, Customs Sports Complex, Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium and Iftikhar Syed Academy are equipped with synthetic pitches. The turfs at the UBL Sports Complex, Pakistan Steel and Defence Hockey Stadium have been worn out.

Secretary of the SHA Ramzan Jamali, secretary of the Karachi Hockey Association (KHA) Mohammad Farooq Khan and Ghulam Mohammad were also present in the meeting with Commissioner.'
