Two killed at Mardan shrine

MARDAN: With the nation still to recover from the shock caused by Tuesday’s slaughter of six devotees at a Karachi shrine, two more followers of Sufism were killed at a Dargah here on Thursday night.

The bodies of latest victims, one of them an octogenarian, were spotted by visitors at the shrine of Ghazi Baba in Pir Hoti area on Friday morning.

Local police said they had been informed about the bodies by someone through a phone call. The deceased were identified as Madae Baba, 80, and Sajid, 35, of Risalpur Cantonment.

According to a preliminary investigation, both the victims were shot dead in a room of the shrine. They had been visiting and staying at the shrine since long.

An FIR has been registered against unidentified killers.

SHO Iqbal Khan of the Pir Hoti police station said the motive behind the offence was not clear. But, he added, it was the second incident of this kind to have occurred at the shrine as two devotees were slaughtered to death there about one year ago.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Taliban, who follow a strict interpretation of Islam, have in recent years targeted shrines, says an AP report.
