Protest march over pollution in Dadu

DADU: Social activists and residents of the villages of two talukas of Johi and Dadu held a march on Monday in Dadu town in protest against pollution caused by work on a gas field located in taluka Johi.

According to protesters, pollution is causing eye, skin and chest infections, lungs problems and TB among the residents as release of chemicals in water affects thousands of people.

The march was organised by the Social Welfare Action Committee, Dadu, and attended by villagers, environmentalists and activists of various political parties.

They marched through various roads, streets and held a demonstration outside the local press club on Katchery road.

Raising slogans against the officials concerned, they demanded that problems of the area should be solved and all corrupt NGOs be banned.

They said the a huge quantity of gas and petrol was explored through 12 wells of the gas field but local people were deprived of their right to live a healthy life.

They said the area was not being developed and major amount of profits was being used in other areas of country. They said the officials concerned had failed to deliver services like health, education, road network and water to the people of Dadu district.
