Man’s killing sparks protest in Mardan
MARDAN: Residents of Mayar locality here on Monday held a protest demonstration against the killing of a daily-wager by unidentified men and gave a three day deadline to the police to arrest the accused.
Sajid Khan, employed with a local landlord in Sheikh Maltoon Town, was on his way back home from work when unknown assailants shot him dead near the under-construction building of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan.
Sheikh Maltoon Town police registered FIR against unidentified killers on the complaint of Mujahid Khan, brother of the deceased and began investigation.
Led by former nazim of Mayar union council, Asif Khan Mayar, the protesters placed the worker’s body on the road at the College chowk, blocking Mardan-Malakand road for about two hours.
The enraged protesters shouted slogans against the district police for failure to maintain law and order situation in the city. Mr Mayar and others said that incidents of killing, robberies, kidnapping for ransom and extortion had become routine in the district.
INTERNATIONAL MOOT: A two-day international conference on computational and social sciences began at the Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan here on Monday.
Dr Imtiaz Hussain Gillani, chairman of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, was the chief guest in the opening ceremony.
