PESHAWAR: A Shia scholar was shot dead here on Monday.

Maulana Alim Musvi was going to a mosque in Mohalla Khudad in the old city area for Maghrib prayers when gunmen targeted him.

An official of Khan Raziq Police Station quoted local informers as saying that Maulana Musvi was the caretaker of Imambargah Safdar Hussain in Ander Shehr.

He said two men had attacked the scholar and disappeared.

Maulana Musvi was taken to the Lady Reading Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The Imamia Jirga condemned the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.
