THATTA: Town without power for two month
THATTA, June 25: The people of the coastal town of Ghora Bari have been suffering due to power breakdown for the last two months.
The town has a population of 10,000. Its only Basic Health Unit (BHU), Mukhtiarkar’s office, and judicial lock up all have been without power supply.
The reason is said to be a defective transformer which had developed a technical fault about two months ago.
The people said they collected Rs8,000 for Hesco to get it repaired but in vain.
INQUIRY DEMANDED: A number of NGOs and leaders of political parties while expressing grave concern over the attitude of Noman Saigal, Sindh adviser for health, with Surgeon Ghulam Mustafa Memon, during his recent visit to the Civil Hospital, Makli, have called for an inquiry into the incident.
Former MNA PPP Babu Ghulam Hussain, Dr Abdul Wahid Soomro, sitting MPAs Sassui Palejo, Humera Alwani, PPP leader Masood Mustafa Shah, NGOs Patient Welfare Society, Young Social Welfare Association, Idara-e-Insan Dost and others through statements issued here on Wednesday claimed that the adviser summoned the senior-most surgeon during prayers from the hospital mosque and publicly abused him and misbehaved with him.
They said that Surgeon Mustafa, who has been serving at the Makli Hospital since the last 18 years and commands respect for his exceptional services in the medical field, carries out an average number of 125 operations every month.
The statement said that with a non-qualified anaesthetist and meagre facilities, Dr Memon had been doing well since long, and added that the adviser had hurt the sentiments of the people of Thatta by belittling a sincere senior professional.
INJURED: Four highwaymen intercepted a truck and injured Aachar Mallah, Pervez Ahmed and Rasool Bux when they offered resistence on the Sujawal Bridge on Wednesday.
