Road accident kills eight in India

NEW DELHI: The Indian police said, a bus collided with a diesal tanker and a car and the three vehicles caught fire due to which at least eight people were burned to death and another 11 seriously injured.

Police official Anand Wadkar said the injured were pulled out of the burning bus and the car by local villagers in western India early Wednesday.

The people who died were trapped inside the two vehicles.

Wadkar says the bodies were charred beyond recognition in the accident near Kude, a village nearly 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Mumbai, India's financial capital.

More than 110,000 people are killed every year in road accidents across the country, according to police.

Bus accidents due to reckless driving, bad roads and poorly maintained vehicles are common in India.
