Series of blasts injure 16 in Karachi's Qasba Colony

KARACHI: At least 16 people, including a local leader of the Awami National Party (ANP), were injured in a series of explosions that took place in Mohammadpur area of Karachi's Qasba Colony late on Wednesday, DawnNews reported.

Three explosions, one after another, shook the Mohammadpur neighbourhood of Qasba Colony injuring 16 persons. Fear and panic gripped the area after the blasts.

Rescue and emergency teams reached the site and shifted the wounded people to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The condition of two wounded was reported as critical, according to rescue sources.

Unknown gunmen also resorted to firing as rescue teams approached the site and damaged two ambulances at the scene.

Later, police and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) arrived in the area, which is declared as highly sensitive.

Security personnel cordoned off the area as a probe into the area went underway.

Police sources said that Mohammad Ali, a local ANP, appeared to have been the target of the attack and that the incident seemed to be a result of personal enmity.

Earlier on Wednesday three bomb blasts, including a suicide attack targeting security personnel, had killed at least four people in Karachi's Nazimabad and North Nazimabad areas.
