HYDERABAD: Six cracker blasts at different places in Hyderabad on Monday night and Tuesday morning spread panic but life in the city remained unaffected.

According to Hyderabad SSP Syed Irfan Bahadur, three of the crackers were lobbed by Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM) activists in reaction to the alleged killing of their party colleague, Sahib Khan Ghoto, whose body was found dumped in Bhirya town of Ghotki district on Monday.

He said the party had given a shutdown call for Tuesday.

After midnight Monday, hand-made crackers were thrown at shops and other structures in the Chandni Mobile Market, Haider Chowk, Naseem Nagar Chowk, Defence Plaza and Agriculture Complex areas. On Tuesday morning, another cracker was lobbed off the Nazeer Hussain flyover.

No casualties or major loss to properties were caused by the blasts. The daily routine in the city also remained unaffected.

The SSP said that three of the attacks were aimed at spreading panic in the city and linked the other three blasts to jubilations at different wedding ceremonies.

Sukkur

A shutdown was observed in Ghotki town on the JSMM call in protest against the recent killing of Mr Ghoto, whose funeral prayers were held in the Ghotki Public Park on Tuesday and attended by a large number of party activists, besides his relatives and friends.

Mr Ghoto was the party’s Ghotki district chief.

His party colleagues, Zain Bhutto, Sajjad Shar, Khalid Shar, Hafeez Sindhi and others told the media that Mr Ghoto had gone missing, and was feared to have been kidnapped, four days back while he was returning home after attending the hearing of a case in the Sukkur Anti-Terrorism Court.

His body was found dumped in Bhirya town of Naushahro Feroze district on Monday, they added.

Badin

A complete shutdown was observed in Matli while a partial strike was also observed in Golarchi, Kario Ghanwar and some other towns of Badin district.

No violent incident was reported from any affected area during the protest.
