Treason case: Court summons head of govt dept on security alert

ISLAMABAD: During Wednesday's hearing of the treason case against former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, the special court summoned the head of the government department that issued the security alert against the former president for an in-chamber briefing at 1 pm today, DawnNews reported.

A three-member bench, headed by Justice Faisal Arab, was hearing the case relating to treason charges against the former president.

During the hearing, Justice Arab said the court wanted to be apprised of the nature and seriousness of the threat against Musharraf and subsequently summoned the head of the government department for an in-chamber briefing at 1 pm.

The hearing of the case was adjourned until tomorrow.

Earlier when Lawyer Rana Ijaz of the defence team representing Musharraf reached the court for the hearing, security personnel prevented him from entering the court premises.

Security sources said Ijaz was barred from entering on a written order of Registrar Abdul Ghani Soomro in wake of his attack on Justice Arab during the treason trial on Tuesday. Justice Arab had asked security personnel to remove Ijaz from the courtroom after he launched into a harangue that he had received “life threats from Lyari Gang” and presumed that Justice Arab was behind them.
