FBR forms tax advisory council

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has constituted a 22-member tax advisory council to recommend new measures for the next budget 2014-15.

A notification issued on Wednesday said the council will provide input on different tax policy issues enabling the FBR to adopt a pluralistic view representing divergent interest groups, and at the same time enhance tax revenues.

It will further deliberate upon and suggest measures for extending tax net, propose legislation, which would minimise opposition and increase compliance with the law.

The council includes two economists, Dr Ali Cheema and Dr Kazi Masud Ahmed; four industrialists, Syed Yawar Ali, Bashir Ali Muhammad, S. M. Munir and Mohsin Aziz; two chartered accountants, Asim Zulfiqar and Ishfaq Tola; and tax consultants, Abid Shaban and Akhtar Ali Naeem.

It also includes former FBR officers Irfan Nadeem, Dr Manzoor Ahmad, Khalid Aziz Banth, and Habib Fakharuddin.

The ex officio members of the council include FPCCI Karachi president; presidents of Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, KP, Quetta chambers of commerce and industries; chairman of Pakistan Business Council and Secretary General OICCI, Pakistan.
