National Volleyball Championship begins in Wah

TAXILA: The 47th National Volleyball Championship 2014 kicked off at Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) in Wah Cantonment on Monday.

As many as 12 teams are participating in the championship; including the Police, Punjab, Fata, Sindh, KP, Wapda, POF, Islamabad, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Army. According to Pakistan Volleyball Federation, the teams have been divided into four pools. One team from each pool will qualify for the semi-finals, which will be held on March 22. The final will be conducted on March 23.

Addressing the opening ceremony, President, POF Sports Control Board, Mohammad Afzal said the POF had previously held various national level tournaments.

He further added that the sports activities in Wah Cantonment had been revived and all sports ground were crowded, which is a symbol of a healthy society. — Our Correspondent
