Heavy snow in Murree

MURREE: Heavy snowfall, a very rare occurrence in the third week of March, attracted tourists to the hill resort.

Since the snow after Mid-March does not last for a long period, it melted and natural streams overflowed, causing traffic jams on the roads.

The problem was further augmented by various incidents of landsliding.

Due to the unexpected spell of rain and snowfall, students are facing inconvenience in reaching their schools. The attendance in educational institutions remained low throughout the city.

Secondary School Certificate Part II (SSC-II) examinations have already started and students are facing serious issues with regard to transport and access to the examination venues.

The highway department has made necessary arrangement to clear snow from the roads, and also scattered salt to prevent snow from freezing.

Extra traffic wardens have also been deployed to monitor traffic and guide tourists.
