Alam set to become PHC chief justice

ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary committee for judges’ appointment approved on Wednesday elevation of Justice Mazhar Alam to the post of chief justice of the Peshawar High Court.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan had recommended the elevation of Justice Alam, the senior most judge in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The parliamentary committee gave approval to the recommendation at a meeting held at the Parliament House with MNA Bashir Virk in the chair. Incumbent Chief Justice Mian Fasihul Mulk is retiring on April 7.

He was sworn in last month after then chief justice, Mohammad Khan, was elevated to the Supreme Court.
