Police team ready to ‘arrest’ Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: The capital administration and law enforcement agencies have finalised security arrangements for former president Pervez Musharraf, who is supposed to appear in the special court at the National Library on Monday.

As many as 2,100 police officials, commandos, Rangers and officials of intelligence agencies would be on security duty.

According to the police sources, a meeting, chaired by the chief commissioner Islamabad, Jawad Paul, was held, in which the police, rangers and officials of intelligence agencies were present. Sources in the police said a five-member police team, headed by SP (city) Mustanser Feroz, had been formed to arrest and produce the former president before the court if he failed to appear before the judges.

The sources said the police team would reach the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) in Rawalpindi at 8am and wait for the court directions. On March 14, the special court directed the police to arrest and present Musharraf on March 31 if he refused to appear before the court to face indictment in the high treason case.
