Musharraf moves SC to strike name off ECL

ISLAMABAD: A petition was submitted in the Supreme Court Thursday seeking removal of ex-army strongman Pervez Musharraf’s name from the Exit Control List (ECL), DawnNews reported.

Advocate Shah Khawar submitted the application in the apex court on behalf of Musharraf, which presented the stance that every individual possessed the freedom to travel abroad.

It added that the former president’s mother was ill therefore he should be allowed to travel overseas to visit her.

The petition also took the stance that it was mentioned in an English daily that Musharraf could travel abroad only on the SC’s directives, based on which the government had not allowed the former president to leave the country.

It said the court should deliver justice and allow the ex-army chief to travel abroad.

Earlier on Wednesday, the government had rejected Musharraf’s application seeking removal of his name from the ECL.
