Shahid Afridi to open hospital in Kohat

KOHAT: Construction of a hospital in Tangi Banda here has been completed with a cost of Rs16 million provided by cricket star Shahid Afridi, who will inaugurate it soon.

Sahibzada Fazle Khaliq, uncle of Shahid Afridi, told newsmen here on Thursday that free of cost treatment and medicines would be provided to the poor people at the hospital, which would be inaugurated by his nephew soon. He said that Shahid Afridi had gifted the hospital to his home village.

Mr Khaliq said that all arrangements had been finalised to hire doctors while purchase of medicines and machines had already been completed. He recalled that the cricket star had also provided Rs10 million for improving condition of the road of his village in 2001.

WATER SHORTAGE: The residents of Bilitang and adjoining localities here have been facing acute water shortage from the last two years. The problem also persists at Garden Colony in Kohat city and despite repeated requests to the elected representatives from the area it could not be solved. Residents said that they had given dozens of applications to the MPAs and MNA, but they did pay heed.

Baba Jan, a resident of Garden Colony, said that there was acute water shortage in sector-4 where women and children could be seen bringing water to their homes from far away places.

He appealed to MNA Shehryar Afridi and MPA Ziaullah Bangash to solve the issue before the start of summer.

Similarly, residents of College Town have demanded of the government to provide them clean drinking water, as water of wells dug up in the area was not fit for human consumption and washing clothes.

Meanwhile, Section 144 was imposed in Hangu district on Thursday due to security concerns and as such gathering of more than five people, display of arms, pillion riding, etc had been banned for one week.
