Forward bloc exposes PTI ministers’ corruption: Sherpao

PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao on Friday said the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf forward bloc had exposed the corruption of own party’s ministers in the province and that the provincial government would meet its logical end soon over failure to live up to the people’s expectations.

Mr Sherpao told a news conference at his Hayatabad house that his party had given support to the provincial government but after its pullout from the ruling coalition, other partners began complaining of the PTI leadership’s undue interference in the affairs of departments overseen by them.

“It is the first ever provincial government, which faces cracks in the shape of a strong forward bloc even before the completion of one-year tenure in office. The bubble of the PTI reputation has blown up.

(PTI chief) Imran Khan is unable to overcome the crisis,” he said. The QWP chief said it was bad luck of the new generation of the province, which had extended full support to PTI but it (latter) failed to deliver and instead complicated issues.

He said the people had supported the ruling parties hoping that they would uproot corruption but they had seen ministers commit corruption.

Mr Sherpao said on one hand, financial resources meant for eradication of polio in the province were ruthlessly spent by the ruling party for political gains and on the other, the number of the cases of the crippling disease was increasing forcing the World Health Organisation to declare the province a reservoir for polio.

He said the PTI forward bloc was in contact with his party, which was closely analysing the situation.

“We cannot keep ourselves away from the interests of our people. The opposition has submitted an application for requisition of the provincial assembly session to discuss the issue,” he said.

Ruling out the possibility of the assembly’s dissolution, the QWP chief said there were many political parties, which were representing the people and that only PTI had not got the public mandate.

“We can’t be pressurised. We can face the people in the elections. However any step to dissolve the assembly will be a joke with public opinion,” he said.

Mr Sherpao said if PTI was unable to conduct local government elections in the province, how it would mange to get public mandate in future.

He said biometric system for elections had failed in the province and that the government couldn’t complete the delimitations of constituencies.

The QWP chief flayed the federal government for failing to take political parties into confidence over negotiations with the Taliban.

“We do not know about the release of the people. The ceasefire deadline has ended and the people are worried about what will happen next but the government has yet to clarify the situation,” he said.

Mr Sherpao said his party had reservations about the government’s negotiating committee as it was not a representative body of all political parties, Fata and that was why tribal MNAs had started boycott of the assembly session.

He said the fate of senior educationist and former vice chancellor Ajmal Khan and sons of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer and former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was uncertain.

The QWP chief said it was the duty of the government to consult all parties and elected representatives about peace process and that only the prime minister and interior minister were issuing statements in this connection.

He asked the government to extend full support to Afghanistan in order to complete the process of presidential elections in a peaceful manner saying peace in Pakistan was directly linked with Afghanistan.

“The government must have prepared a roadmap that how to deal with the situation after the Nato pullout from Afghanistan.

However, it is need of the hour that people of Quetta, Peshawar and Kabul should strengthen their contacts with clear priorities, especially peace,” he said.
