Two school teachers killed in Hangu firing

HANGU: In an incident of firing in the early hours of Tuesday unknown armed men killed two teachers near the Government High School in Chasma Jaat area of the Hangu district, DawnNews reported.

According to police, the unidentified attackers were able to escape from the spot after the incident.

Police further said that a search operation was launched in the area to find the suspects.

The station House officer of City Police Station Aslam Khan told that unknown attackers fired at the teachers named Shamim Badshah and Liaqat Ali Khan near Government High School number 1. He said that both the teachers died on the spot.

The bodies of the victims were shifted to a hospital.

The deceased Shamim Badshah belonged to Hangu while Liaqat Ali belonged to the Haji Zai area of Kohat.

Angry protesters blocked the Hangu Kohat Road near Alizai to protest the killing of Ali.

The traffic on the Kohat Hangu Road remained blocked due to the protest. Liaqat Ali hailing from Kohat was a member of the Shia Community.

Hangu borders the northwestern tribal region of Orakzai, one of Pakistan's seven lawless districts on the Afghan border considered to be the hub of Taliban and Al Qaeda-linked militants.

The district also has a history of sectarian violence and was declared a “sensitive region” during the month of Muharram.
