KARACHI: Karachi and Hyderabad were the only two sides to emerged winners in the second-round matches of the PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars Under-16 tournament on Wednesday.

Karachi trounced Larkana by an innings and seven runs at the UBL Sports Complex here to record their first victory in Pool ‘C’.

After making 259 in their first innings to earn a 138-run lead, Karachi dismissed Larkana for 131 in the second innings with Mohammad Umar grabbing seven wickets for 28 runs.

Nasir Ali was the sole Larkana player to shine. After taking 5-77 in Karachi’s innings, he played a resolute 63.

Hyderabad defeated Quetta by four wickets at the NBP Sports Complex largely due to the superlative bowling heroics of Syed Aresh Jaffri.

The youngster snared his fourth consecutive haul of five or more wickets in an innings. Having taken 10 wickets in the drawn first-round game against Karachi, Aresh followed up his 6-33 in the first innings with another impressive haul of 5-53 as Quetta mustered 126 all out in their second innings.

Hyderabad, chasing 130, reached their target in the 44th over while losing six wickets. Shaharyar Khalid made 40 and Uzair Jaffri 38.

After a blank day one at the Ittefaq Cricket Ground in Lahore, the hosts were bundled out for 131 after Faisalabad elected to bowl first.

Adeel Zafar was Faisalabad’s star performer with a bag of 6-42.

In the limited time available on the final day of the two-day Pool ‘A’ fixture, Faisalabad posted 63 without loss in 13 overs.

Multan settled for first-innings’ points against Sialkot at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

After taking their overnight score from 202-8 to 241 all out in 69.2 overs, Multan wrapped up Sialkot’s first innings for 101.

Following on, Sialkot then collected 121-4 in their second innings with Najid Raheel making 55.

Earlier, Rao Irfan hit 94 to emerge as the mainstay of Multan’s innings.

Hamza Khan hammered 137 and Mohammad Umair 108 as Bahawalpur declared their first innings at 282-3 in 52.1 overs against Islamabad after Tuesday’s opening day was washed out at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad.

Islamabad lost six wickets in totalling 175 in 42 overs of their reply with Umar Nawaz Khan contributing 79.

The other Pool ‘B’ game between Peshawar and Dera Murad Jamali was drawn with the latter taking points on the first innings at Islamabad’s National Cricket Ground.

Likewise, the Pool ‘D’ encounter between Rawalpindi and Fata at the Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi also ended in a draw.
