Movie review: The captain does it again!

NOT many superhero sequels are better than their first instalment, but Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier is different. Here, the Captain has to fight for what’s right, clear his name and above all, battle an old friend who has been taken over by HYDRA, the villains.

He still has his shield with him that is his most destructive weapon, and he still doesn’t like it when things don’t happen the right way!

The film kicks off with Captain America (Chris Evans) trying to fit in, in the aftermath of what happened in The Avengers. When something happens to the director SHIELD (Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate) Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), people suspect Captain America for not being entirely honest and he becomes a fugitive. He is hunted by HYDRA’s secret weapon The Winter Soldier who has links to the past of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. With the help of The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), the Captain goes on a mission to clear his name and save America, and the world!

Directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, aka The Russo Brothers, do an excellent job in bringing back some of the Avengers on screen, before the next Avengers movie in a couple of years. The fight sequences are brilliantly executed and you will not get bored if you are a Marvel Comic fan! The way the characters of Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) and Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford) have been painted keeps up the suspense as whether to trust them or not; one-liners like “Don’t look at me, I do what he does. Just slower” and “Before we get started, does anyone wanna get out?” also entertains the viewers since they are delivered with the right intensity.

Fans of the super soldier expect a lot from Captain America – The Winter Soldier and their expectations are met by the executives at the Marvel Universe. For those who have not seen the first part or don’t know about the characters, it’s better you read about him.

After all, not everyone understands the impact of Stan Lee — the person who created Captain America and The Avengers — who makes his usual cameo appearance and steals the spotlight for a moment. Go Captain!
