Six of a family gunned down

QUETTA: Six members of a family were gunned down in Dashat area of Kech district on Wednesday, according to officials.

Gunmen barged into the house of Abdul Hameed alias Master in Chout village of Dashat area, about 30km from Turbat town, and started firing, killing the six people on the spot.

“They were sleeping when the armed men attacked the house,” Turbat Assistant Commissioner Hameed Khosa told Dawn. The incident took place at about 5am.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, police reached the village and shifted the bodies to the Turbat District Hospital. “The victims received multiple bullet wounds,” police said.

Two brothers were among the dead. The victims were identified as Abdul Hameed, Mohammad Riaz, Sagir, Mohammad Naveed, Mohammad Asif and Abdul Rahim.

The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained, the assistant commissioner said.

AFP adds: Another senior official said Hameed had had problems with the outlawed Baloch Liberation Front, which had accused him of spying for the agencies.
