Ms Erdogan to inaugurate hospital
MUZAFFARGARH: Ms Emine Erdogan, the wife of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Teyyip Erdogan, will visit the district on June 21 to inaugurate a hospital and a school at Basira Town.
District Coordination Officer Hafiz Shaukat Ali told Dawn on Tuesday the Turkish government had donated a state of the art hospital and a school, along with a housing colony comprising 1,274 houses for those affected by the 2010 super flood.
Ms Erdogan had visited Mahmood Kot in 2010 and saw the devastation caused by the flood.
The hospital, earlier named Tikka Hospital, had been named Emine Erdogan Hospital, in recognition of Ms Erdogan’s concern for the area.
Similarly, the Turkish government had gifted a modern school with more than six dozen class rooms and a hostel for the students at Basira Town, along with a housing colony.
Sources said the Punjab government was planning to declare the institution Danish School, naming it Emine Erdogan School of Excellence.
Education EDO Ghulam Nazuk Shehzad said school’s building was also equipped with Turkish furniture and CCTV cameras.
Punjab chief minister’s adviser Salman Rafique had visited the hospital on Monday as part of his weekly assignment given to him by the CM.
The district government is busy planting date palm trees along the road leading to the hospital, while the district coordination officer is supervising security arrangements for Ms Erdogan’s visit.
