Two more killed in ‘sectarian attacks’

KARACHI: Two people were on Monday killed in sectarian attacks a day after the Majlis-i-Wahdat-i-Muslimeen staged a protest demonstration against killings in the city’s high-security zone.

An employee of the Sindh government was shot dead in a suspected sectarian attack in Liaquatabad on Monday morning, police said.

They added that Syed Ahmed Ali Zaidi, 30, was on his way from his home in F. B Area to work in the Sindh Secretariat on a motorbike when armed motorcyclists attacked him at the Liaquatabad underpass.

He was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He had sustained four bullet wounds, including two in the chest.

“It appeared to be an act of sectarian violence,” said Liaquatabad SHO Shakeel Shervani. He added that the victim was a junior clerk in the services and general administration and coordination department.

A shopkeeper was gunned down in Azizabad on Monday evening.

Police said Sajid Ali Jafferi, 60, was sitting in his auto-shop in Bhingoria Town when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled.

The victim died while being taken in an ambulance to the ASH, the police official said.

“It appeared to be an act of sectarian killing,” said Azizabad SHO Irfan Asif.

Man wounded

A 41-year-old man was shot at and wounded in Rizvia Society. Syed Imtiaz Hussain Naqvi was getting a shave at a barbershop in Waheedabad, Gulbahar, when two armed motorcyclists appeared there, said Rizvia Society SHO Mazhar Iqbal.

One of them got off the motorbike and went inside where he opened fire after a quarrel with Mr Naqvi and fled, added the officer.

He was taken to the ASH, where doctors said he had received four bullet wounds, including two in the chest, and his condition was serious.

Young man killed in Lyari

A 30-year-old man was shot dead in the Kalakot area on Monday evening.

Police said Amir Arif was allegedly attacked by his cousin Asif at Aath Chowk near Irani Bakery in Lyari. He was taken to the Civil Hos­pital Karachi, where he died. The suspect fled. The police said the murder was the outcome of personal enmity.
