Thatta: law & order

THATTA is my native district, so I usually visit it once a week. During my two-to-three-hour journey from Karachi to Thatta, I have to go through various police checkposts on the National Highway and face as many hassles.

The Thatta police have created many checkposts from Dhabejee to Makli, aimed at minting money from public transport, instead of focussing on law and order.

Recently the police have pretended to start a drive against ‘gutka’ sellers. ‘Gutka’ sellers are arrested, which only seems to be a photo op for the media. Later they are released, while ‘gutka’ is easily available everywhere.

Motorcycles and cars can be seen all over without any number plates. Besides, the snatching of motorcycles has become very common along the coastline.

The biggest jirga in lower Sindh was held in Sijawal, Thatta, on May 19, in open violation and contempt of the Supreme Court’s decision. But, unfortunately, the district police administration didn’t bother to take action against it.

I earnestly request the chief justice of the Sindh High Court, the Sindh chief minister and the IGP to take stern action against all black sheep in the police.
