Security beefed up as reports warn of terrorism

ISLAMABAD: The capital police were alerted on Wednesday after the interior ministry asked them to tighten security in the area.

The ministry had received an intelligence report on the presence of around 10 to 12 terrorists in Tarnol area, Dawn has learnt.

They said the alert was issued after security and intelligence forces received intercepts which disclosed the presence of terrorists in Tarnol.

The terrorists may strike either Rawalpindi or Islamabad, they said, adding that they planned to attack sensitive installations.

The sources said terrorists are between the ages of 20 and 30, and are staying in Tarnol with a facilitator. However, the identity of the facilitator of the terrorists is still unknown.

In response to the alert, joint teams of army, Rangers and police started gathering intelligence from Tarnol area to identify the terrorists and take action against them.
