Junior boxing from today

RAWALPINDI, July 17: More than 100 boxers representing the provinces, services and three departments will compete in the All-Pakistan Brig Rodham Junior Boxing Championship starting on Friday at the Army Stadium.

Maj Muhammad Zubair Shahid, army’s boxing coach told a news conference that besides the provinces and the services, Wapda, Railways and KPT boxers will feature in the five-day championship which is being organised by Army.

The event is being held in memory of Brig Rodham, the first director general of the Pakistan Sports Board.

Addressing in place of Brig Arif Siddiqui, the head of the Army Sports Directorate who did not turn up for the news conference, Zubair said that there would be competitions in 10 weight categories.

Prof Anwar Chowdhry, the Pakistani president of the International Boxing Association will open the championship and will remain in Rawalpindi during the course of the competitions.

The championship is being sponsored by Green Hill, manufacturers of boxing gear who, Zubair said had consented to provide a lot of support to them.
