PM due in Chakwal today
CHAKWAL: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will arrive in Chakwal on Wednesday to inaugurate two road projects.
During his short visit, he would re-launch Mandra-Chakwal Road and Chakwal-Sohawa Road.
The two projects were first launched by former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in 2012 but Islamabad High Court issued a stay order due to the violation of the rules of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) while awarding contract to National Logistic Cell (NLC).
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif re-approved the two road projects and interestingly NLC again managed to get the contract.
However, a recent meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) gave its consent for 64km Mandra-Chakwal Road and dropped 70km Chakwal-Sohawa Road.
But PML-N MNA Tahir Iqbal is of the view that Nawaz Sharif would launch both roads.
“I would put other demands of Chakwal before the prime minister and I hope he would be kind enough to approve them,” a satisfied Tahir Iqbal told Dawn.
Nawaz Sharif would reach at 9am and would participate in the ground-breaking ceremony at Dhudial.
The Chakwal district administration has adopted foolproof security measures for the occasion.
