ISLAMABAD: An exhibition on Islamic calligraphy opened at Lok Virsa this Friday, featuring around 100 pieces. Among the artists showcased were well-known calligraphers Azeem Iqbal, Khawaja Mohammad Hussain, Imran Tahir, Younas Roomi, Syeda Ayesha Bukhari and Sara Azeem.

According to an official statement, Lok Virsa Executive Director Shahera Shahid said Lok Virsa had been involved in the research, collection, documentation, preservation and dissemination of traditional Pakistani art since 1974.

“Pakistan has a rich historic background of beautiful calligraphic tradition, which needs to be projected further. Lok Virsa has already established a three-dimensional cultural display on calligraphy at the Heritage Museum focusing on its historical growth over the years,” she said.

Shahid said due to the current wave of extremism and terrorism, cultural activities like the exhibition can play a vital role in educating the masses on Pakistan’s heritage. The exhibition will continue until July 28 from 10am to 4pm.
