Four killed as coach falls into gorge in Gilgit

GILGIT: At least four people were killed and over 12 others injured Friday when a passenger coach travelling from Rawalpindi to Gilgit fell into a gorge, DawnNews reported.

The accident occurred when the driver of the Gilgit-bound coach lost control of the vehicle due to over-speeding.

As a result, the coach felt into a deep gorge in Babusar and four of the passengers lost their lives, whereas 12 others sustained injuries.

The injured were shifted to a hospital in Chilas by rescue teams and locals in the area.

Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
