Man, daughter shot dead in Karachi ‘sectarian’ attack

KARACHI: A 60-year-old man and his 25-year-old daughter were killed and his wife and another daughter injured in a suspected sectarian attack in Surjani Town on Sunday, police said.

Syed Kazim Shah was standing outside his home in Khuda Ki Basti along with his family members when gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on them. The wounded family was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Kazim Shah and his daughter Aroosa as dead on arrival. His wife Naeema and nine-year-old daughter Rida were admitted for treatment.

Kazim Shah was the ‘permit-holder’ of Muharram processions in the area which witnessed tension almost every year, SSP Irfan Baloch said, adding that Kazim had received threat from a sectarian organisation.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen said that Kazim Shah was caretaker of Dar-i-Batool Imambargah in Surjani Town.

He said the victim was travelling in a car with his family when they came under fire.

Tension prevailed in the area after the incident.
