Mathira gives birth to baby boy

While news of her marriage only surfaced last month, VJ turned actor Mathira gave birth to a baby boy in Karachi on Wednesday.

She was rushed to the hospital on September 1 amidst political chaos in the country.

Wearing several hats, Mathira has remained a yogi, TV host, singer and dancer.

She has been married for a year but chose to keep news of her marriage away from the media spotlight.

In an earlier Dawn report, Mathira was quoted as saying that only family and a few close friends knew about her marriage as she was a person who keeps her family life secret and even avoids talking about relationships due to their fragile nature. The actor had not even divulged her husband's name, adding that she would reveal the name and face at the right time.

“I am a person who keeps her family life secret. Relationships are very fragile so I avoid talking about them,” she says after refusing to reveal her husband’s name, “Sahi waqt par shakal bhi dikha doon gi.” She did however confirm that he is not associated with show business before disclosing that he does not even belong to Pakistan.

Mathira’s television career took off with a programme on which she appeared as a yoga instructor. But a controversy was triggered when she appeared in a contraceptive advertisement for Josh condoms, which was later taken off air by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) after public complaints that called it immoral. She has also featured in a number of songs both as item girl and singer.

Talking about her future projects, Mathira had earlier said that she was working on two Bollywood films.
