Students resent Benazir varsity’s ‘lethargy’
LARKANA: Protesting over the alleged inaction on the part of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) administration, students of the Bibi Assefa Dental College (BADC) on Thursday boycotted their classes and blocked the main entrance to the college as well as that of the Chandka Medical College (CMC).
Kashif Shar, Zain Khaskheli and Ghulam Hussain Gamb led the protesters who boycotted their regular classes and OPDs and blocked access to the two colleges.
Raising slogans, they lamented that their future was hanging in the balance as the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) had declined to recoginse the college.
Haresh Kumar and Shaheryar Shaikh told the media that over 150 students of the current batches alone were affected by the uncertain situation on account of the PMDC recognition issue.
They said that the PMDC had 10 months ago raised four objections relating to absence or inadequate faculty, space and facilities as required for the recognition.
The council had stopped the BADC from admitting more students, they added.
They said the SMBBMU administration had failed to remove the objections over the past 10 months.
They demanded immediate measures by the administration to save their future.
SMBBMU registrar Prof Dr Sikandar Mughal, CMC principal Prof Dr Saifullah Jamro and BADC principal Dr Ilyas Shaikh held negotiations with the protesting students and assured them of urgent action to resolve their issues.
